How to Get the Perfect Cap and Gown Photos- Tips and Ideas

After you book your shoot, the next thing on the to do list is deciding on outfits. In the next few minutes I will tell you all the DOs and definitely DON'Ts when it comes to your outfit selection.

1. Color

When picking colors, choose ones that match your general style, school colors and/or gown color. I would stay away from bright colors because those gowns are not always very thick and you will see right through them. As a general rule of thumb, neutrals tend to photograph best.

2. Patterns and solids

I recommend staying away from crazy patterns. You want the main focus to be on YOU and not necessarily what you are wearing. Again, you will see through the gowns.

3. Style

The style of your dress/ outfit should be soemthing you can move in easily. I recommend dresses do not go past your gown length. When you have the gown on for some photos, it just looks like an entension of the gown and can throw it off. But my goal is to always make you feel comfortable! So if floor length is what you have your heart set on, then go for it!

4. Weather

Take into consideration the time of year. Graduatons are usually the end of May/ beginning of June (typically hot). Please make sure you will not overheat and bring water to stay hydrated!

5. Be true to you

If you are looking to save some money, there is no need to go out and buy a new outfit. Check your closet first to see what you have and can possibly wear. If you do buy a new outfit, wear it before your shoot to see how comfortable it is and that it matches your aesthetic. First step in loving your photos, is loving yourself... and the way you look ;)
